Trump to address nation on new Afghan strategy

Trump to address nation on new Afghan strategyPresident Donald Trump will announce his decision on America's strategy in Afghanistan in an address to US troops and the nation Monday night, almost 16 years after the war began. The US leader will "provide an update on the path forward for America's engagement in Afghanistan and South Asia" in an address to be delivered at 9 pm (0100 GMT Tuesday) from the military base at Fort Myer southwest of the capital, the White House said in a statement. Wary of international involvements but eager for progress in the drawn-out Afghan war, the Trump administration had originally promised a new plan by mid-July.

Moroccan suspect in Barcelona attack turned more conservative in past year: familyBy Samia Errazzouki MRIRT, Morocco (Reuters) - A suspect still at large after the Barcelona van attack began showing more religiously conservative behavior within the past year and refused to shake hands with women during a visit to his birthplace in Morocco in March, family members say. The relatives expressed shock and anger on Sunday after discovering the alleged involvement in the Barcelona attack of Younes Abouyaaqoub, 22, as well as his brother and two cousins, all originally from the small Moroccan town of Mrirt. Abouyaaqoub is one of 12 suspects in Thursday's attack on Las Ramblas, Barcelona's most famous boulevard, in which a van plowed into holidaymakers, killing 13 people.

Millions pour into US towns in path of total eclipse

Millions pour into US towns in path of total eclipseOn Monday, when a total solar eclipse sweeps across the United States for the first time in 99 years, people gathering in Charleston, South Carolina, will be the last on the continent to experience it. Historic Charleston, with its cobblestone streets and elegant antebellum mansions, was clearly a-bustle on Sunday, in full pre-eclipse mode. Its restaurants were packed and downtown parking was at a premium as excited locals and tourists -- possessors of the prized solar glasses that make eclipse-viewing safe -- strolled cheerfully along the seafront Battery promenade.

'Catching' a U-2 fresh back from America's air wars

'Catching' a U-2 fresh back from America's air warsBy Phil Stewart AL DHAFRA AIR BASE, United Arab Emirates (Reuters) - It may not sound possible to "catch" an American spy plane while driving a Dodge Charger. The plane itself was designed in the 1950s to grip the lightest parts of the atmosphere some 70,000 feet above the Earth, so, in the words of one of the U-2 pilots, "it really doesn't want to stop flying." Enter the Dodge Charger, which along with another so-called "chase car" helped guide the spy plane down to the runway, speeding at about 90 miles per hour - an operation perfected over the many years of the famed U-2 Dragon Lady's operations.

Prominent U.S. religious conservatives defend Trump after Charlottesville

Prominent U.S. religious conservatives defend Trump after CharlottesvilleBy Doina Chiacu and Sarah N. Lynch WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two prominent religious conservatives defended U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday after he was widely criticized for blaming both white nationalists and counter-protesters for last weekend's violence at a Virginia rally organized by neo-Nazis and white supremacists. Evangelical Christian Jerry Falwell Jr said Trump could be more polished and politically correct but is not racist. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who last week criticized the white nationalists' "evil, sinful, disgusting behavior," said unequivocally on Sunday that the faith community stood by Trump.

Spain attacks: The imam who 'ate up the brains' of youths

Spain attacks: The imam who 'ate up the brains' of youthsIn a little Spanish town by the Pyrenees mountains, a Moroccan imam has come under intense scrutiny, accused of creating the terror cell that allegedly launched the twin attacks in Spain. The blast likely changed the plans of the attackers, who instead used vehicles to smash into pedestrians on Barcelona's busy Las Ramblas boulevard and in the seaside resort town of Cambrils. "On Tuesday morning, he left saying he was going on vacation to Morocco," said fruit-seller Nordeen El Haji, 45, who four months ago moved into the apartment that Satty occupied in Ripoll.

You probably think your dog is cool and yet, can it even shop for groceries?

You probably think your dog is cool and yet, can it even shop for groceries? There's not much to this post, and yet it is perhaps the most important thing I have ever written. Here is what I know: there is a dog, somewhere (perhaps the Bay Area, California), and that dog is pushing a shopping cart around in a grocery store. The dog appears to be a German Shepherd, and the grocery store appears to be well-stocked. SEE ALSO: Extremely excited pup just can't wait to catch the bus to doggy school You may be thinking, "So what? It's a fluke, the dog just happened to jump up on the cart." Wrong. Exhibit B: Look, that's it, okay? That's all I have for this one. The dog is pushing a shopping cart. It is one of the best things I have ever seen in my life and more than 70,000 people have faved the dog. I wish I had more information to give you about this dog and yet, at the same time, I am happy that there is still some mystery in the world.  Have a nice day and remember not to stare directly at the sun.
